What Im Making With The Last Of My Summer Garden
Mariam harvests the last tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, and bell peppers from her container garden, then cooks stuffed peppers, a tomato salad, and carrot juice.
What this video is about
At the end of summer Mariam picks what is left in her containers: ripe tomatoes, including a small crop of sauce tomatoes and sweet golden ones, carrots that finally produced after years of trying, one last small cucumber, and bell peppers that stayed green. Rain left some tomatoes with blossom end rot, and she notes that a container garden needs fertilizer put back into the soil.
The next cooking scene is a quieter kitchen day, with her mother nearby. She stuffs the garden peppers with rice and browned ground beef, seasons them with paprika, thyme, black pepper, basil, and beef broth, tops them with mozzarella, and bakes them at 180°C. Firmer tomatoes become a simple salad with salt, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Her mother juices the carrots with ginger and cucumber.
